The goal of this project is simple- to provide a high-quality Maternity Ward where women can safely labor and deliver their infants, preventing the unnecessary deaths and complications so commonly occurring in pregnancy and childbirth in Sierra Leone.

In September 2016, Holy Spirit Hospital proudly opened its newly constructed Maternity Ward! Furnished with state of the art equipment and complete with triage and observation rooms, an operating suite, 32 labor and delivery and postpartum beds, pre-op and recovery areas, as well as a reception and waiting area for the families, this 7500 square foot obstetric facility is ready to serve a minimum of 750 women annually.

Most importantly, we are privileged to have a full-time obstetrician/gynecologist leading our Maternity Ward.

We have established partnerships with local physicians, midwives, and nurses in order to provide educational training in methods proven to decrease both maternal and neonatal mortality.

By establishing relationships with well-respected individuals and organizations in the Northern Region, we promote outreach into the villages, educating local women about the importance of timely utilization of the Maternity Ward not only for their labor and delivery, but, ultimately, for antenatal care as well.
